Meet Connie the Guidance Junkie!
Hello and welcome to Guidance Junkie! I’m Connie and I’m a fifty-something tutor from Canada and a mother of two (almost-grown) girls, a cat, a gecko and a parrotlet. In my free time (which isn’t often) I love to play hockey, go camping and travel the world. My favourite food is anything that someone else makes for me, as it’s nice to relax for a night and my hobby of over 15 years is contesting (it’s a real hobby, trust me!).
I started tutoring over 14 years ago so that I could both work and stay-at-home with my girls. I taught both of my girls to read before sending them off to kindergarten and I volunteered in their school giving one-on-one reading time in French and English, as well as assisting students who needed more one-on-one attention in other courses such as mathematics. A few years later I was offered a position teaching French at a local nursery school; however, I realized that I was able to have more of an impact when teaching one-on-one.
After realizing this I looked into what it would take to start a tutoring business and a few months later (when I got my first client) I was off and running! Tutoring opened my eyes to the fact that I was not just guiding the kids I worked with but also their parents with my at-home suggestions and my input and advice on their kids and school as mine were a few years older and so I had already gone through those stages.
Now, after over 14 years of elementary and high school tutoring experience as well as over 20 years of experience guiding my family I have developed Guidance Junkie so that I can share the information I’ve gained over the years with you! I will strive to share information which will be both interesting and informative as well as a few stories that will leave you shaking your head. I’ve created this space to share the knowledge I have with respect to education which includes in the classroom, online and in the real world. I will share ideas, options and ultimately peace of mind with respect to educational decisions and beyond.
